Kayvon and Erin made the long trip to Fort Wayne to meet up with me for their Summer engagement session! They stumbled upon my work on WeddingWire, and I am so grateful they did! These two are from Indianapolis, and will be getting married at Laurel Hall in mid-April! I am over the moon excited for them! They were an absolute joy to work with, and I genuinely feel like I walked away from their engagement session with new friends!
They first met doing musical theatre in 2013 back in Peoria, Illinois where they both were born and raised. They were in a community theatre production together of The Little Mermaid, where Kayvon played Prince Eric and Erin was in the ensemble. They became friends and did a few more shows together.
Fast forward to 2016, Kayvon was about to graduate college at Illinois State University and Erin was about graduate high school. Since Kayvon lived at home and commuted to school, he was still able to hang out with Erin and the rest of their friends. In February of 2016, they decided that they would start dating, and at the end of the summer (when she would go off to college and he would move to California) that they would, sadly, end things. But something beautiful happened–it became the best summer of their lives. They went on road trips and hung out with friends and just had a great time. So when the time came in August to say goodbye, they just knew it wasn’t going to end.
Kayvon moved to California to study at UCLA and Erin stayed in the Midwest to start her undergraduate degree. They were in a long-distance relationship for a while, with only six total visits to see each other in person. In the time that they were apart, Erin’s family moved to Indianapolis. And after two years, Kayvon decided to move to Indiana to be close to Erin. They got an apartment and lived together for about a year and a half when Kayvon decided to ask a question that would change both of their lives!
Kayvon had a grand plan to propose to Erin, but Covid put a huge halt to it. So, he came up with the most clever idea! He would film himself saying one word every day for a year, in a different location and wearing different clothes, and put it all together in the end to create one cohesive speech. This took a lot of time and dedication but also a lot of secrecy. Sometimes, he would have to film in the wee hours of the morning and other times would have to “go to the bathroom” and sneak off to film that day’s video. And never once did Erin or any of our friends catch him doing it. He played the video to her at a park, and asked his best friend to marry him! You can see the whole video here…. it’s so sweet!
Now this April, (at the time I’m posting this, this WEEKEND!) they will say ‘I do’ in front of their closest friends and family! It’s a wedding day that I have been SO excited about and I cannot wait to capture all of the beauty of their big day! Stay tuned for that blog post soon!
